कवि सम्मलेन में हास्य कवि की माँग  साठ के दशक से प्रारम्भ हो चुकी थी | उससे पहले मंच पर कविता सुनाने वाले को सिर्फ कवि के रूप में जाना जाता था साठ और सत्तर के दशक में कवियों का वर्गीकरण प्रारम्भ हुआ | समाज में बढ़ती प्रतिस्पर्धा के कारण कुछ हल्के पलों की खोज शुरू हुई | इस  खोजबीन में हास्य कवि हल्के पलों का साधन बन गया |  1. हास्य कविता की शुरुआत कविता मौलिक रूप से करुणा और संवेदना का विषय है | हिर्दय की असीम पीड़ा के भावों को नपे-तुले शब्दों में प्रस्तुत करना ही कविता माना गया | वक़्त बदला तो शब्दों के माने बदलते चले गए | कविता कितावों से निकलकर ज़ब मंच और माइक तक पहुंची | तो उसमें अभिनय और ग्लैमर खुद व खुद शामिल हो गए | जिसको नाम मिला कवि सम्मेलन | पिछले पचास वर्षों से कवि सम्मेलन लगातार यात्रा पर है |  2. हास्य कवियों की माँग   हँसना सबको अच्छा लगता है | शब्द और संवाद से उत्पन्न हास्य लम्बी यात्रा करता है | वहीं कविता से उत्पन्न हास्य उससे भी अधिक लम्बी यात्रा करता है | वर्तमान में  कवि  सम्मेलन  की कल्पना में  ही हास्य समाहित है | इसीलिए वर्तमान के कवि सम्मेलन को हास्य कवि सम्मेलन कहन

The demand for humorous poets in Kavi Sammelan had started from the sixties. Before that, the person who recited poetry on stage was known only as a poet. Classification of poets started in the sixties and seventies. Due to increasing competition in the society, the search for some lighter moments started. In this exploration, the comic poet became a means of light moments. 1. Beginning of a humorous poem Poetry is fundamentally a matter of compassion and sensitivity. Presenting the feelings of immense pain of the heart in measured words was considered poetry. As times changed, the meanings of words kept changing. When poetry came out of books and reached the stage and mike. So acting and glamor itself got involved in it. Which got the name Kavi Sammelan. Kavi Sammelan has been on a continuous journey for the last fifty years. 2. Demand for comic poets Everyone likes to laugh. Humor generated from words and dialogue travels a long way.
